Treat Tuesday-Chocolate Creme Brûlée

Looking for an easy dessert to make for your Valentine?? This decadent chocolate version of Creme Brûlée is exactly what your dinner table needs! Not only is it loaded with chocolate, it also has Kahlua and instant espresso in the recipe. You sweethearts will love you the whole year for making this treat!

Start by setting your ramekins in a large roasting pan with high sides as you will be putting the custard in a water bath to bake them.

Next the egg, egg yolks, and sugar are whisked together.

Chop the chocolate bars finely so that they will quickly melt when added to the warm cream.

Then add heavy cream to a medium sized sauce pan and heat on the stove until it is scalded. Remove from the heat and add the chopped chocolate and espresso and whisk until the chocolate is melted. You can see the delicious flecks of coffee in the cream!

Add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and gently pour into the ramekins until they are full.

Finally, add super hot tap water to a measuring cup and gently pour around the ramekins until the water is halfway up the sides of the ramekins.

Bake until the edges are firm but the center is a little jiggly. Remove from the water and let cool completely. Then cover each dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm.

Now for the fun part! Years ago my sister gave me a kitchen blowtorch and this is the perfect recipe to use it on to crystalize the sugar on the top of the custard.

Granulated sugar is sprinkled over the top of the custard and then the blowtorch is fired up and gently moved across the sugar.

It’s time to set your Valentine’s Day on fire! 🔥 💕
