Treat Tuesday-Orange Sugar Cookies

It’s party season! And if you are wanting to roll out some fun holiday shapes but you don’t want to have to wait for the dough to chill, these Orange Sugar Cookies are what you need. The dough is super easy to work with and as long as you keep your mat well floured, you shouldn’t have any trouble churning out some festive shaped cookies!!

Begin by mixing some shortening, granulated sugar, and an egg together until well whipped.

Add in some grated orange rind. Make sure you use a fresh orange to procure your orange zest as it really elevates the flavor of these cookies.

Also add in some high quality vanilla.

Mix well, then add in the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix until the dough comes together around the beater.

Finish combining all the ingredients with a spatula.

Put part of the dough onto a floured pastry mat.

Roll out into a 1/4″ thickness and use your favorite cookie cutters to make the cookies.

Place on a cookie sheet covered with a piece of parchment paper.

Sprinkle each cookie with colored glittery sugar and gently press into the dough.

This is a messy project but it is really a lot of fun!!

Bake for seven minutes or just until barely golden brown on the edges. Let cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

These will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit!

Make a few extra to freeze for Santa…
