Treat Tuesday-Halloween Sugar Cookies
I had so much fun today! I came across my Halloween cookie cutters and since we are close to Trick or Treat day, I decided to put them into action. You may recall that I am not very good at frosting cookies. They look far from professional to say the least so I love decorating with crystal sugars, or tinted egg wash which I used today.
This is a nice, buttery, sugar cookie dough. The key is to beat the butter and sugar together until it is really light and fluffy.
Next the flour mixture is slowly added after the eggs and vanilla to make the perfect roll-out dough.
Form into two discs and place in the refrigerator to chill.
Now for the first of the fun, roll the dough and cut into your favorite shapes. There is something great and messy about cut-out cookies. Flour is literally everywhere and it awesome to fill the cookie sheet with all the spooky Halloween images.
For the record, I really hate bats, but isn’t this guy kind of cute??
Since I did not want to frost these and I was out of Halloween colored sugars, I did a tinted egg wash courtesy of the Pioneer Woman. An egg yolk, a Tablespoon of water, and food coloring whisked together make these fun “paints”.
Using a small pastry brush, I colored the cookies. I. Had. So. Much. Fun!!! It is a tad time consuming, but look at these treats. Bake them and the colors pop even more.
These will make you a believer in the Great Pumpkin!
