Treat Tuesday-Peanut Butter Mississippi Mud Brownies
Really the title says it all. Chocolate, marshmallows, peanut butter…wow. These live up to their name. Speaking of name, I looked up why “Mississippi” gets some credit here. Apparently during World War II this dessert would be made using simple ingredients that could be found in the home and a Mississippi Mud Cake resembled the banks of the Mississippi River. There is your history lesson for today.
This pan brownie starts with a chocolate batter, half of which is spread over the bottom of the pan.
Next is the peanut butter layer. This batter is slightly thicker and I found it best to place small amounts at a time on top of the chocolate and gently spread with a knife. I also found this batter quite addictive!
Finally one more layer of chocolate and then you swirl the batter with a wooden skewer before placing in the oven.
Once baked, you drop the mini marshmallows evenly over the warm brownies and they will partially melt onto the top.
This is the grown up version of a mud pie.
