Treat Tuesday-Oma’s Apple Cake

Oma’s Apple Cake fills your kitchen with the smell of cinnamon, but it is also great for warm fall days, because this cake is best served cold! Two layers of batter surround cinnamon-sugar apples for a deliciously dense treat!!

Start with McIntosh or Honeycrisp Apples. I ended up only needing two apples because mine were really large.

Leave the peel on and just cube up the apples and mix with cinnamon and sugar.

Next mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt with a whisk.

Using a stand mixer, then add butter and sugar beating until well combined. Add in the eggs and vanilla.

Now beat in the flour mixture until the batter is well mixed.

Press half of the dough into a prepared pan.

Add a single layer of the cinnamon apples.

Press the remaining dough over the apples.

Finally sprinkle the top of the cake with granulated sugar.

Bake until the cake is a deep golden brown. (Truly it smells absolutely amazing!!)

Let cool and then refrigerate overnight. Trim the edges off of the cake but save them! These pieces of crust are so wonderful to snack on!! Cut the cake into small squares.

Such a special treat.
