Pumpkin Spice Time-Baking Season Tips

With the start of Autumn, the desire to get into the kitchen and start baking is overwhelming! I’m all in this year with some of my longtime favorites as well as several new recipes I have been wanting to try. Before you get out your mixer, I thought I would share a few things I do in my kitchen each year when this season rolls around.

First, I know I sound like a broken record, but clean out your spice cabinet! Seriously, it probably seems like you just did this, but I guarantee you will find at least one spice that has expired. They can be rather pricey but your baked goods are just not going to taste right if your spices are not fresh. This also includes your flour and sugar if you have not opened up those canisters in awhile!

Stock up on basics like the afore mentioned flour and sugar. Make sure you have vanilla extract, butter, canned pumpkin, light, dark brown and powdered sugars, molasses, and cocoa powder. Don’t forget parchment paper, wax paper, and pastry bags.

Look over your oven mitts (no really…look at them…). Check your spatulas for nicks and cuts. Don’t forget your cookie sheets…if you have been using those to roast vegetables on, time to shop! I love these Goldtouch non-stick ones from Williams-Sonoma.

Finally set up a baking center in your kitchen. If everything is tucked away under the counters, you are going to be less inclined to drag everything out. Your mixer should be the main appliance next to your oven for a few months!

Happy Baking 🎃
