Cinnamon Chocolate Cake
The spice of cinnamon with the chocolate make this a decadent cake. No frosting skills necessary, just pour the glaze over the hot cake and let it cool.
Ingredients
Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup butter
- ¼ cup cocoa
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
Frosting
- ½ cup butter
- ¼ cup cocoa
- ⅓ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 lb. powdered sugar
Instructions
Cake
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- Sift the flour and sugar into a large bowl.
- In a saucepan add 1 cup butter, ¼ cup cocoa, and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil and pour over flour mixture, and combine.
- Add buttermilk, baking soda, cinnamon, vanilla, eggs, and salt, mixing well.
- Pour into a greased and floured 9" x 13" pan. Bake at 400° for 30-35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Frosting
- To make the frosting, bring ½ cup butter, ¼ cup cocoa, and milk, along with the vanilla to a boil in a large saucepan.
- Remove from heat and add the powdered sugar gradually, whisking until smooth and slightly thickened. Pour over the hot cake and let cool.
