Cinnamon Chocolate Cake

The spice of cinnamon with the chocolate make this a decadent cake.  No frosting skills necessary, just pour the glaze over the hot cake and let it cool.

Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Frosting
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar

Method
 

Cake
  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Sift the flour and sugar into a large bowl.         
  3. In a saucepan add 1 cup butter, ¼ cup cocoa, and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil and pour over flour mixture, and combine.
  4. Add buttermilk, baking soda, cinnamon, vanilla, eggs, and salt, mixing well.
  5. Pour into a greased and floured 9" x 13" pan.  Bake at 400° for 30-35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Frosting
  1. To make the frosting, bring ½ cup butter, ¼ cup cocoa, and milk, along with the vanilla to a boil in a large saucepan.
  2. Remove from heat and add the powdered sugar gradually, whisking until smooth and slightly thickened.  Pour over the hot cake and let cool.
