Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce
This is an easy cake that can feed a lot of people. The caramel sauce takes the flavors to the next level!Plan Ahead Note: the butter and eggs need to be brought to room temperature.
Ingredients
Apple Cake
- ¾ cup butter softened to room temperature
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 cups peeled, chopped Granny Smith apples
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Caramel Sauce
- ¾ cup butter
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- ¾ cup heavy cream
Instructions
Apple Cake
- Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13" x 9" pan.
- Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl.
- Beat in eggs one at a time.
- Sift together dry ingredients and add to egg mixture alternately with apples.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Pour into prepared pan and bake for 40-50 minutes.
- Cool in pan for 5 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm.
Caramel Sauce
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Immediately remove from heat and spoon over individual servings of warm cake.
