Treat Tuesday-Nutmeg Cookies
A little luck o’ the Irish they say. Well, I did not have the luck last week and missed St. Pat’s day completely due to a nasty germ. My kitchen was shut down for 5 days! It seemed so unfair to miss the great, green day that I figured a week to the day was as good as any to celebrate with a four leaf clover, cookie style!
I began with on of my favorite cut out cookie recipes. You start with some flour and nutmeg, and cut in the butter with a pastry blender.
Ball up the dough and let it hang in the fridge until it is firm.
This dough tends to be sticky, so liberally apply flour to your mat and rolling pin and start cutting out your shapes. Sample some dough, it’s addictive!
Ten short minutes in the oven and these gems are ready to taste. To add a little “green”, put several drops of food coloring into royal icing as it is mixing. I frost my cookies like a child…I say it is to reminisce about my elementary school days, but really I’m just in a hurry to eat these!
