Chocolate Kiss Cookies

My  mom made these for our family every Christmas.  We would come home from school and the glass tree cookie jar would be filled with these powdered sugar wonders!
Plan Ahead Note: the butter needs to be softened to room temperature and the dough needs to chill for one hour.
Prep Time 1 hour 20 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Servings: 2 dozen cookies
Course: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 9 oz. pkg. chocolate candy kisses
  • powdered sugar

Method

  1. Cream butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Add ½ cup powdered sugar and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Add flour, salt, and cinnamon gradually mixing with a spatula until well blended.
  4. Chill dough for one hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°.
  6. Mold 1 Tablespoon cookie dough around each chocolate kiss, covering kiss completely.
  7. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375° until cookies just turn golden around the edges, about 15-18 minutes.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheet then remove to wire rack and roll in powdered sugar while warm.
  9. When completely cool, roll in powdered sugar again.
