Baked Ziti

For this recipe you can make a homemade sauce, or use your favorite jar sauce if you need a quicker option for a homemade meal.  If you can't find Ziti noodles, Pene noodles are a good substitute.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 16oz. pkg Ziti noodles
  • 1 lb. italian sausage
  • 1 ½ lb. lean ground beef
  • ½ onion finely chopped
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 lb. sliced mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese grated

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.            
  2. Cook pasta according to package directions and drain.
  3. Cook sausage and ground beef with onion in a large frying pan over medium heat. Cook until sausage and beef are no longer pink and are crumbly.
  4. Drain sausage and beef.
  5. Add marinara sauce and Ziti.
  6.  Layer half of the meat mixture and half of the mozzarella cheese in a 13" x 9" pan coated with cooking spray.
  7. Add remaining marinara sauce and Ziti and cover with aluminum foil.
  8.  Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and add remaining mozzarella cheese and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  Bake an additional 10 minutes.
  10.  Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
