Method
Filling
- Prepare filling by beating cream cheese, butter, and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until blended and smooth.
- Add egg, flour, and vanilla, beat just until blended.
Cake Batter
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- To prepare the batter, stir together 3 cups flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, nutmeg, and allspice.
- Stir in eggs, canola oil, applesauce, and vanilla.
- Stir in apples.
- Spoon two thirds of apple mixture into a greased and floured 14 cup Bundt pan.
- Spoon cream cheese filling over apple mixture leaving a 1" border around the edge of pan.
- Swirl filling through the apple mixture using a paring knife.
- Spoon remaining apple mixture over cream cheese filling.
- Bake at 350° for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a long wooden skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove cake from Bundt pan and let cool on rack for 2 hours, then frost.
Frosting
- To prepare the frosting, melt brown sugar, butter, and milk in a small saucepan over low heat, whisking constantly and bring to a boil.
- Continue to whisk at a boil for one minute and then remove the pan from the heat. Stir in vanilla.
- Gradually whisk in powdered sugar until smooth and stir gently for 5 minutes until mixture cools and thickens slightly. Pour immediately over cake.
