Slow-Simmered Meat Sauce
This recipe works best if you make it the night before you want to serve it, the flavors intensify for a nice, rich sauce.

Ingredients

olive oil

chopped onion

chopped carrot

garlic

hot Italian Turkey sausage

lb.
ground sirloin

tomato paste

sugar

teaspoon
kosher salt
½
teaspoon
crushed red pepper

28oz. can
crushed tomatoes
undrained

cup
tomato sauce
1
Tablespoon
chopped fresh oregano
16
oz.
large flat noodle pasta
cooked according to package directions
½
cup
chopped fresh basil
3
oz.
grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add oil to pan; swirl to coat.
Add onion and carrot to pan; sauté 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add garlic; sauté 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Place vegetable mixture in a slow cooker.
Add sausage (with casings removed) and beef to skillet; sauté 6 minutes or until browned, stirring to crumble.
Drain beef mixture from skillet and add to slow cooker.
Add in tomato paste, sugar, salt, red pepper, crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
Cover and cook on LOW 8 hours.
Stir in oregano.
Cool and refrigerate overnight. Reheat on the stove and serve over cooked pasta, topped with basil and parmesan.
