Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce

For a quick side dish and a way to spice up gnocchi, make this sauce and pour over freshly cooked potato gnocchi.


1-28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 package gnocchi

In a small saucepan, combine the tomatoes, olive oil, onion, salt, red pepper flakes, and basil.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.  Prepare the gnocchi according to package directions, drain and place in a bowl.  Add the sauce and parmesan cheese to the gnocchi and gently combine.
