Mom’s Snickerdoodles

This is it. The perfect Snickerdoodle recipe. It is wonderfully buttery dough rolled in cinnamon sugar. You simply don't need any other ingredients.
Plan Ahead Note: the butter and egg needs to be brought to room temperature.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs at room temperature
  • 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Mix together the flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda.          
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer combine the butter, shortening, and sugar. Beat for 2 minutes.  
  • Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  • Spoon in the flour mixture, beating just until combined.
  • Gently roll the cookies into balls.
  • Mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
  • Roll balls in the cinnamon sugar and place on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Bake at 400° for 9 minutes.  Let cool for 3 minutes on pan and then move to a wire rack to cool completely.
