Oreo Balls

These are dangerous, very very dangerous. You can't eat just one, it's impossible! Be sure to add the shortening to the chocolate to make dipping easier.
Plan Ahead Note: the cream cheese needs to be softened to room temperature and the dough will need to chill for two hours.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pkgs. regular Oreo cookies
  • 2 pkgs. cream cheese softened
  • 2 pkgs. semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 4 Tablespoons shortening

Instructions
 

  • Place cookies in a food processor with blade attachment and process until cookies resemble fine crumbs.
  • In a large bowl of an electric mixer, add cream cheese and mix until light and fluffy.
  • Add the cookie crumbs and mix until well combined.
  • Chill the dough for two hours.
  • Using a teaspoon or a cookie scoop, roll the dough into balls and place on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
  • In a double boiler, over medium heat, add one package of chocolate chips and 2 Tablespoons of shortening.
  • Melt completely and remove from heat.
  • Using two spoons, dip each ball completely in chocolate.
  • Drop onto a cookie sheet covered with wax paper and chill.
  • When you run out of dipping chocolate, repeat the melting stage with the other package of chocolate chips and remaining 2 Tablespoons of shortening.
