Rice Meatballs

A childhood favorite (thanks mom!)  Serve with additional cooked rice.


1 cup instant rice
1 lb. ground beef
1 egg
2 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon marjoram
pepper to taste
3-8oz. cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Combine rice with beef, egg, salt, marjoram, pepper, 1/2 can of tomato sauce.  Shape into balls.  Bake in skillet over medium heat until evenly browned on all sides.  Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar to remaining tomato sauce and pour over meatballs.  Bring to a boil and reduce heat.  Simmer covered for 15 minutes.
